Marie Hopkins currently serves in the Rhode Island House of Representatives in District 21. She represents Warwick on four important RI House Committees: Committee on Health & Human Services, Committee on Judiciary, Committee on Labor, and Committee on Veterans' Affairs. 

As a member of the Special Legislative Commission to Study Educational Outcomes for Youth in State Care, Marie was actively involved in efforts to improve education for youth in foster care. Marie currently serves as a Board Member for Mission Boots to Briefcases, a Warwick-based 501(c)3 dedicated to serving veterans and their families. She is a legislative representative participating the Food as Medicine Task Force, securing the future of nutritional needs for at-risk Rhode Islanders.

Marie Hopkins is a lifelong Rhode Islander, raised in Warwick and a proud graduate of East Greenwich High School. Go Avengers!

"My values have been shaped as a mother, a nurse, and a teacher. I have lived in this area for most of my life, gaining degrees from Brown University and URI, working as a psych nurse, a substitute school nurse for the City of Warwick, and as an instructor of CNA coursework at the Community College of Rhode Island."

Prior to nursing, Marie received a double bachelor's degree with Honors in English and Expository Writing from Brown University. She spent many years working part time as an online editor for two magazines while raising her children. Later, Marie was inspired to return to college to pursue a second career. She received a nursing degree from URI, earning both her BSN and Registered Nursing license. She holds a Masters degree in Advanced Nursing and Public Health.

Marie began her nursing career as an acute and criminal psychiatric nurse. She has an extensive nursing background, having worked at the State Psychiatric Hospital, in addition to Roger Williams and Landmark Medical Centers. She formerly worked for the VA serving our nation's heroes in an acute geriatric psychiatry setting. She worked within her hometown community as well, as a substitute school nurse for the City of Warwick. Presently, Marie is teaching at the Community College of Rhode Island, using her nursing expertise to help foster the newest members of the healthcare workforce. 

Early in her marriage, Marie lived for short times in California, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina and overseas - but she has found it true that there truly is "No Place like Home." Today, she lives in the Conimicut/Hoxsie section of Warwick with her husband and three children where they have resided for over 18 years. Her husband is an attorney for a travel insurance company, her two daughters are pursuing graduate studies in healthcare, and her son is pursuing a degree in nursing. The family lives next door to Marie's grandmother, a Conimicut resident since 1962. Marie's father was a Cranston police officer- her parents now live in Warwick Neck. Her brother is a primary care provider, working in East Greenwich and the surrounding communities - he and his family are residents of Warwick as well. Marie has strong ties to Warwick, and she and her family are fully invested in this community. 

Marie works hard to serve Warwick residents and her home state of Rhode Island. Her unwavering commitment to the community as a public servant is evident. As a nurse, and an educator, she has the skill set to listen, learn, and lead. Marie is eternally grateful for this vital position in the State House, entrusted by the residents of Warwick, and looks forward to continuing to serve her community moving forward.
